Life and Times of a Modern Day NDN Princess
Inuit Artist: Annie Pootoogook

When I was in Winnipeg, I found myself thrust in the Art scene. Which suprises me, because I would never really think that Winnipeg had an amazing art scene. I went to many gallery openings and met many amazing artists.

I went to the gallery Plug at ICA with the ever talented Noam Gonick (made Stryker, always want to call him Noam Chomsky) and the amazingly talented Jasmine Netsena. We went into the gallery to visit some of Noam’s friends and ended up enthralled by Annie’s work.

Her work doesn’t even compare to what you see on a computer screen, you have to see them in person. They are drawn in a childlike manner. Through a child’s eyes. But they are disturbing, sad and brought so many emotions to me when I looked at each piece. I recommend people to go see her work, in real life these pieces are absolutely amazing.
