The anual Amnesty International Report came out this week, and eventhough Canada ranked quite low on the list. Amnesty International still have some concerns about Canada. Alot of them about Aborginal people.
Among the concerns;
“the failure to ensure prompt and impartial resolution of disputes over land and resource rights.”
The concern is about the gas pipeline that is going to be constructed through lands in Alberta claimed by the Lubicon Cree.
“The Alberta Utilities Commission ignored these concerns when it approved the project in October,” said the report.
It also takes aim at a complaint over alleged funding disparities for aboriginal child protection agencies.
The report also take aim at Canada for 2007 Ipperwash inquiry report into the 1995 police shooting and death of aboriginal protester Dudley George.
On the issue of women’s rights, with respect to missing or murdered women and takes the Conservative government to task for cutting funds to groups that advance women’s rights.
